John Rice, founder of Thoroughbred Daylilies, has been a professional horticulturist for over 35 years and uses his expertise and skillful eye to hybridize and select some of the most beautiful and highly acclaimed daylilies in the world. His wife Annette, a professional artist, shares his passion for daylilies and together they cultivate their 10 acre farm just outside Lexington, Kentucky.
A note from John & Annette Rice:
We grow 700 named cultivars as well as tens of thousands of seedlings for our hybridizing program. We also have a commercial sized greenhouse used for propagation and hybridizing.
Our daylily bloom starts in April in the greenhouse. By May the early bloomers are flowering outside. Our peak occurs toward the end of June into the first weeks of July. We have some varieties which bloom well into August.
We have daylilies available for purchase at the nursery. We have thousands of plants in pots and many more in the ground which can be dug on order. We can also ship plants to most places in the United States and overseas.
We welcome visitors. Please call ahead to let us know when you are coming so we can be sure to be here to show you around.
